Great question, Dena. Not sure I can identify with Queen Victoria, as I'm not in a position of sovereign rule. :) But I don't agree with her statement in principle. I think it's important what people think of me in relation to my Christianity. How I behave reflects on Christ, and so I want people to think well of me in that regard so that He is glorified. However, I don't spend time thinking about what others think of me, good or bad. God's grace frees me of that. Finally, I'd say it's more important what I think of myself than what others think of me.
ReplyDeleteYes, Nancy, I think Queen Victoria was probably referring to your last statement. I can see both sides, just as you stated. It's a thinking-man's statement which leads to some great discussion.
